What is Gospel of The New Truth?
Gospel is the news - usually considerd the good news. What this blog atempts
to do is provide a classical liberal look at some (but not all) political issues. Of course.
what is presented is opinion - opinion based upon facts as presented. The one thing about "facts",
is that all factys are rebuttable (for insyance, an eye-witness fact statement), but
an opinion isn't rebuttable, since it is based upon the opinion giver's evaluations and experience,
and is his or her belief and understanding. So an opposite opinion can be rendered, but the original opinion cannot be
rebutted. It is up to those making the determination of those opinions presented as to which
"hold more water", so to speak. For more on this subject, see
(see http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-fact-and-opinion.htm)
Your opinion is, of course, always welcome.

Anyway, here we are at then end of the first decade of the 21st, in which we find ourselves in a land of chaotic dysfunctionality. Actually, not much different from past days - the 1930s, 1960s, 1970s, etc. But the biggest difference in today's life is the high speed dissemination of information - true or false, it makes no difference, as long as you get the underlying message. It's a good thing the Internet did not exist seventy years ago - Goebbels and his ilk would have had a real field day!

Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight by Karl Rove
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was surprised at how well written 'Courage and Consequence' is. Rove draws you into his history, particularly during his Bush associated years. I heard Rove in a debate with Howard Dean, which was somewhat interesting, but his writing, and the information provided therein, was much more enjoyable. You do not have to try to finish the book quickly. It can be read over a long period of time, and you don't lose any connection with his 'life in the fight'.
One of the more interesting chapters is the account of the attempt by the Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald to to have Rove indicted by a grand jury re: Valerie Plame. Although that attempt, which covered three years, is pretty much recent history, Roves telling of that failed attempt is an important political story - one, by the way, which may show why many good people shy away from politics.
One other point - the book's section on 9/11 coincides in description with much of President Bush's book 'Decision Points', which is one of several I am currently reading.
